Chapter 31 Dr. Connors' Moral Blackmail by Toby
Chapter 31 Dr. Connors' Moral Blackmail by Toby
Snap snap snap ——————
Listening to Dr. Connors's "bold words," Toby applauded him sincerely.
It must be said that sometimes, the villains' astonishing ideals are indeed greater than the ideals of some so-called superheroes who claim to protect world peace.
For example, Dr. Connors' plan to evolve all of humanity together.
Of course, if there are no side effects...
Given the nature of American comics, this kind of approach of collective evolution usually ends in an unexpected turn of events.
In the end, they either all turn into the lizard-like monster race in "The Amazing Spider-Man 1," or they all mutate into six-legged, eight-eyed spider monsters like in the comic book "Spider Island."
Toby doesn't want to see either of these outcomes.
Even if Dr. Connors could actually develop a drug that perfectly combines the abilities of Spider-Man and the Lizard without any side effects, Toby wouldn't agree to his plan for the evolution of the entire population.
On a grander scale, power inflates one's ego. If everyone possessed Spider-Man's power, the world would probably be doomed within a year.
On a smaller scale, everyone has selfishness, and Toby is no exception. If everyone became Spider-Man, wouldn't he be no longer special?
Unless... if all of humanity becomes Spider-Man, he can also gain their Spider-Power by defeating them one by one, just like he gained Peter Parker's Spider-Power.
Even if everyone in the world became Spider-Man, he could still be his super-bully Spider-Man in a world full of Spider-Men.
However, Toby thought this was unlikely.
On the one hand, no author would let the plot unfold like this, otherwise they would just quickly level up to the maximum level and then end the story.
On the other hand, his spider-like sixth sense told him that he could only obtain spider-like abilities from a special Spider-Man like Peter Parker; it wouldn't work for an ordinary person to acquire spider-like abilities.
Ever since he gained Peter's abilities through this spider's sixth sense, he has been convinced of its power.
So Toby, looking at Dr. Connors who was expecting his answer, finally gave a negative reply:
"While your global evolution plan sounds impressive, I'm sorry, but I can't trust someone who's been misled."
"So let the real Dr. Connors talk to me."
Dr. Connors's face darkened when Toby, after much deliberation, finally refused him.
"What are you talking about? Look closely, I'm not the Lizard Monster anymore, I'm Dr. Connors!"
Toby ignored him and went straight to a frozen safe. He opened the safe with his palm print and took out a vial of green medicine from the cold air.
Dr. Connors's expression changed drastically upon seeing the lizard potion; his eyes became filled with greed and longing as he looked at it.
"So it was you! You took my regeneration serum from Norman's secretary while Peter was ruining my plans!"
Toby nodded in agreement: "That's right, and I lied to you before, saying I wasn't very good at biological research, but actually I do know a little bit."
In this life, he is Peter's cousin, a born Spider-Man, and a genius who completed his studies at MIT at the age of 18. How could he really be ignorant of the field of biology?
He just usually prefers to solve problems by brute force.
Making money is the same; he prefers to use his own strength to make money, rather than his brain.
Essentially, if he were to put his mind to it, he could be even more talented than Peter.
Otherwise, why do you think Toby would build a dedicated laboratory on the second basement level?
As Dr. Connors saw Toby approach the testing table with the lizard serum, the greedy expression on his face turned to fear:
"Wait! What... what do you want to do?!"
Toby, without turning his head, placed the test tube in his hand into an instrument for analysis and said calmly:
"You know what? Peter wasn't the only one who knew the final formula for the lizard regeneration serum. I was there when Peter looked at the formula his father left him..."
"It's just that I didn't have the research facilities back then, and by the time my lab was finally completed in the last two years, you had just delivered the finished product to me, saving me some mental effort..."
"Although this finished product is not perfect and has not met my expectations, it is still a very simple thing to use it to deduce the antidote."
As he spoke, Toby did this and that, and finally produced a sample of a deep blue anti-lizard serum.
Upon seeing the serum, Dr. Connors immediately struggled and frantically tried to retreat:
"No, no, no! I don't want to! I don't want to turn back into that cowardly Curtis Curt Connors, you can't do this!!!!"
This was of course useless. Toby grabbed Dr. Connors by the hair and, regardless of whether he wanted to or not, injected the needle directly into his neck!
As the blue serum was injected into Dr. Connors' body, the green skin on Connors' body visibly returned to normal human skin, and his eyes regained their former clarity.
After the injection, Toby casually tossed the empty syringe into a trash can several meters away, then ripped the ropes binding Dr. Connors and extended his left hand to him:
"Welcome back, Dr. Connors."
Without the constant seduction of the second evil personality, Dr. Connors, now back to his senses, pondered for a long time before finally giving a wry smile, grasping Toby's left hand, and standing up:
"As a scientist, I was incredibly foolish to inject myself with an untested serum..."
"Toby, have I... hurt a lot of people?"
Toby nodded slightly: "Yes, but fortunately, both of your actions after you became a lizard man were thwarted by me and Peter. Apart from the second one, which resulted in the deaths of several police officers, there were no civilian casualties."
"And you don't need to blame yourself too much for the officer's death. In America, police officers are prepared for this day."
"And their deaths will not have been in vain. I will anonymously provide financial assistance to their families to ensure they can live a normal life after losing their breadwinner."
"Of course, I'm covering this cost for you; it will be deducted from your salary later."
This was certainly not because of Toby Shan, but because it allowed him to better control people with high moral standards like Dr. Connors.
As expected, Dr. Connors did not act like some superheroes who kill without burying the dead, but instead took responsibility for the consequences he caused.
Dr. Connors sighed:
"This is something I should have taken on, but I'm afraid I'll have to owe you this money for a while. This failure means I can no longer work for Osborn Corporation..."
"And although it wasn't my true intention, I did kill several innocent police officers, and I think I'll be spending a long time in prison..."
Toby interrupted Dr. Connors: "Of course you can't stay at Osborn Corporation anymore, but is turning yourself in and spending your time in jail really what you want?"
"Don't you want to continue your regenerative serum research?"
"Don't you think that only by completing this limb regeneration research, which could benefit all of humanity and help countless police officers injured in the line of duty, can we truly atone for the deaths of those innocent officers?"
Faced with Toby's righteous words, Dr. Connors was moved, but still hesitated and said:
"But... even if I'm willing to continue the research, the research rights for the lizard regeneration serum are held by Osborn Corporation. Without Osborn Corporation's authorization, no legitimate company would agree to let me continue researching the lizard regeneration serum..."
To this, Toby scoffed and pointed to his lab: "Doctor, does this look like a legitimate company to me?"
