Chapter 49 Trap
Chapter 49 Trap
The seventh mine is located on the outskirts of Tiancheng Star.
Zhao Chen landed on a cliff outside the mine with the three women, his sharp eyes scanning the surrounding area. There were several times more guards than before, dozens of squad leaders, their commanders exuding a deep and imposing aura—they were at the early stage of the Third Generation Divine Body. But what truly alarmed Zhao Chen was another aura hidden within the inconspicuous building in the center of the mine: the mid-stage of the Third Generation Divine Body.
It should be Sumari.
Zhao Chen withdrew his gaze. "There's an ambush. Sumari is inside."
Keisha frowned. "Can you fight?"
"able."
Keisha didn't ask any further questions. "Be careful."
Zhao Chen looked at He Xi. "You're coming with me to the west."
He Xi paused for a moment, then nodded.
Keisha, accompanied by Liang Bing, charged into the mine from the east. Sword flashes erupted, and several guards fell to the ground. The garrison commander flew out of the warehouse, roaring as he charged. Keisha didn't meet the attack head-on, but turned and retreated. Liang Bing delivered several more blows from behind, leading the pursuers in another direction. The commander gave chase, and chaos erupted on the east side of the mine.
Sumari emerged from the building, a smile playing on his lips as he looked eastward. Just as he was about to give chase, a commotion erupted from the west—guards stumbled and fell, swords flashing as they weaved through the crowd.
Turning her head, she saw He Xi standing alone in the center of the battlefield, her short sword still dripping blood. Guards lay dead all around her, her clothes splattered with blood, but her breathing was steady, showing no signs of injury.
Sumari smiled. "I thought you weren't coming."
He Xi looked up at him but didn't say anything.
Seeing that He Xi didn't speak, Su Mali took two steps closer and looked her up and down. "You've lost weight. It must have been tough following this wild man around, wasn't it? Come back, I'll tell Prince Hua Ye—"
"Are you done talking?" He Xi interrupted him.
Sumali's smile froze. He stared at her, a hint of ruthlessness flashing in his eyes. "You're still the same." He suddenly reached out, grabbed He Xi's wrist, and pulled her into his arms.
He Xi's expression changed, and she tried to pull her hand away, but Su Mali gripped it tighter. He moved closer to He Xi's face and lowered his voice. "How wonderful it was when you were by my side. Now you're with this thing that appeared out of nowhere—"
"Let go." He Xi's voice turned cold.
Sumari didn't let go. Instead, she raised her other hand, gripped the back of Hexi's neck, and lowered her head to kiss her.
Just then, a flash of golden light appeared before my eyes.
Before Su Mali could even touch He Xi, Zhao Chen had already stepped in front of her. He gripped Su Mali's wrist firmly with one hand and wrapped his other arm around He Xi's waist, pulling her into his embrace.
Su Mali's hand was flung away by Zhao Chen, and he staggered back a step. Zhao Chen didn't look at him anymore, but lowered his head and kissed He Xi's lips.
He Xi's eyes widened suddenly. Her mind went blank, and she couldn't react to anything. Zhao Chen's lips were warm, carrying the scent of sunshine. He placed his hand on He Xi's waist, pulling her close to him. He Xi's fingers gripped Zhao Chen's clothes tightly, staring blankly at him without trying to push him away.
Sumari froze on the spot, his expression incredibly interesting.
Zhao Chen released He Xi and turned to look at Su Mali. "Her affairs are none of your business from now on."
Sumali stared at Zhao Chen, then looked at He Xi. He Xi was looking down, her ears already red, but she didn't say anything or look at him.
Sumali's face went from ashen to pale, then flushed with a blush—not of anger, but of the humiliation of having his beloved possession snatched away right before his eyes, and watching it willingly go to someone else. His lips moved, as if he wanted to say something, or as if something was stuck in his throat.
Sumari stared at Zhao Chen, her face ashen. "You—"
"Do you still want to fight?" Zhao Chen asked, looking at him.
Sumali's chest heaved violently. He wanted to make a move, but that last pull made him realize one thing—this person was stronger than he had anticipated. He stared intently at Zhao Chen for a few seconds, then looked at He Xi. He Xi raised her head, looking at him calmly.
Finally, Sumari suddenly laughed, a dry and hoarse laugh. "Fine," he said, his voice unusually hoarse. He stumbled as he turned, nearly tripping over the pebbles on the ground, and then disappeared into the night as if fleeing. His back looked as if he had been stabbed in the back.
The mine gradually quieted down. Zhao Chen put away the God-Slaying Spear and turned to look at He Xi.
She was still standing there, stunned, head down, her ears still red. Moonlight shone through the gaps in the clouds, falling on her profile and making the pink blush stand out even more.
Zhao Chen quietly walked over. He Xi suddenly looked up, saw Zhao Chen approaching, and quickly took a step back.
Zhao Chen immediately stopped.
The two stared at each other silently. He Xi was the first to give in, her gaze shifting elsewhere, landing on the rock behind Zhao Chen. She hurriedly said, "Don't come any closer."
Zhao Chen didn't move. "Did he touch you?"
He Xi didn't answer. She just kept her head down, slowly straightening her disheveled clothes, as if trying to hide something. "I'm fine. Let's go."
She turned to leave. Suddenly, Zhao Chen reached out and grabbed her wrist. He Xi froze, jerking her hand away with a force that surprised Zhao Chen.
"I told you not to come over." He Xi's voice was a little hoarse, as if she was holding something down.
Zhao Chen didn't move. He Xi stepped back a few paces, her back to Zhao Chen, her shoulders tense.
"What happened just now," He Xi said softly, "don't take it seriously."
Zhao Chen looked at her. "Why?"
He Xi didn't answer. She stood there silently for a long time until Keisha's voice rang out in the distance, shouting for retreat. Only then did she finally turn around and look at Zhao Chen. In the moonlight, there was no blush on her face, only a faint weariness.
"I don't want Keisha to know about this." Then she paused before adding, "And I don't want to be used as a pawn by you."
Zhao Chen looked at her. "You think I'm using you?"
He Xi didn't speak, but her eyes clearly showed one word—yes.
Zhao Chen was silent for a moment. "I stopped him because of you. He wanted to touch you, what else would I be waiting for if I didn't stop him?"
He Xi stared at Zhao Chen for a few seconds. "Then why did you kiss me just now—" she paused, "because of this?"
"no."
He Xi was stunned. Zhao Chen looked directly into her eyes and said, the moonlight illuminating his face, his golden eyes holding no hint of jest or probing, "I kissed you because I like you."
He Xi's ears turned red again. She quickly looked away, her voice very weak. "You—"
"I thought you were beautiful from the first time I saw you," Zhao Chen said. "Later, your calm, rational, intelligent, and seemingly cold but actually warm personality made me fall irrevocably in love with you."
He Xi turned her face away, not daring to look at Zhao Chen again. She hurriedly said, "You already have Keisha."
"This has nothing to do with her."
He Xi's fingers clenched the hem of her clothes. "Then go tell Keisha."
Zhao Chen looked at He Xi's face with deep affection. "I'll tell you later, of course. But I need to tell you now."
He Xi hurriedly lowered her head and stood there in silence for a long time. At this moment, Liang Bing suddenly called out to her from afar, her voice growing closer and closer.
"Are you done talking?" He Xi turned to leave.
Zhao Chen didn't stop her. "You're done talking."
He Xi took a few steps forward, then stopped. "Don't tell Keisha."
Then she walked away quickly. Zhao Chen watched He Xi's retreating figure, a slight smile playing on his lips.
In the distance, He Xi was being pulled away by Liang Bing to help, her head down, the redness at the base of her ears still lingering. Keisha glanced at He Xi, then looked in Zhao Chen's direction, but ultimately asked nothing.
