Chapter 6 The Warrior-Mage-Priest Squad in My Dream
Chapter 6 The Warrior-Mage-Priest Squad in My Dream
The city of Misty City was still shrouded in a thin white mist in the early morning. The wooden door of the Adventurers' Guild was ajar, and the inside was deserted. Only Catherine, the receptionist, was leaning on the counter, yawning and sorting through the register.
It's too early. Most adventurers are either still hungover in the tavern or have already left the city for the forest. Almost no one would linger in the guild hall at this time.
squeak-
The guild's door was pushed open, and a bit of damp, cold air seeped in through the crack. Hearing the sound, Catherine immediately sat up and flashed her standard business smile.
"Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild..."
Catherine skillfully repeated her classic opening remarks, then looked up and saw a handsome young man walk in.
A thin mist covered his sleek leather armor, a longbow slung across his back, and a quiver of arrows at his waist—all brand-new equipment. His clean and sharp ranger attire, coupled with his handsome yet aloof appearance, instantly invigorated Catherine.
As a receptionist for the local adventurers' guild, she knew most of the adventurers in Misty City, and she was certain she had never seen this unfamiliar face before.
"He must be a stranger, but given his age and that brand-new gear... is he some noble scion who's out playing an adventure game?"
Catherine silently labeled the young man before her.
Unaware of her thoughts, Rod stepped across the threshold, leaving a trail of wet footprints of varying depths on the floor, indicating that he had been outside for some time.
Before coming to the Adventurers' Guild, Rhode went to the blacksmith shop to sell the weapons he had stolen from the goblins and then spent more money to buy a standard set of ash wood longbows and arrows.
The price was that Rhodes's wallet was much emptier, making one sigh that the cost of becoming a qualified adventurer was so high.
As for the ten silver coins reward that Alina had previously promised...
When Rhodes asked her for it, the half-elf belatedly realized that she was too busy making a living to have any money at all.
In the end, she had no choice but to become Rod's fodder for a fusion project, and the two of them worked together to earn money to pay off their debts.
Once you've done it the first time, the second time becomes much smoother.
Seeing Rhodes looking around, Catherine became even more certain of her guess. She sat back down and said lazily:
"Hello, what service do you need? Do you need to register information, receive commissioned tasks, or post commissions?"
Rod remained silent, his eyes fixed on the bulletin board.
Considering the low average level of education among local adventurers, the guild used white lime to draw the characteristics of the monsters and marked their bounty prices afterward.
The original price of 50 copper coins per goblin has been removed from the image and replaced with a price of 80 copper coins per goblin.
The information provided by Guard Buck was correct; the price of monsters was rising even faster than he had anticipated, and it was likely that some clever adventure groups had already embarked on their journeys to hunt down monsters.
Seeing that the other party remained silent for a long time, Catherine's smile became difficult to maintain.
"What's wrong with this guy? Can't he hear me?"
Dissatisfied with the other party's cold arrogance, Catherine followed the other party's gaze and found that the other party was staring at the monster extermination commission.
"He's immediately setting his sights on those high-difficulty tasks..." Catherine thought to herself. "I hope he doesn't impulsively decide to go and get himself killed..."
There are adventurers like this every year who can't see their own strength, and now the grass on their graves is probably all overgrown.
"Hello, what do you need?" She spoke slowly and gently, repeating the message to the other person.
Before she could finish speaking, a string of gray-green ears landed with a "smack" on the counter, interrupting her speech.
"This is?"
Catherine composed herself and peered over. On the counter sat a string of ears strung together with hemp rope; their skin was greyish-green, their ears pointed like a human's, and they reeked of a foul stench.
It's a goblin.
Each ear was intact, with the last one being the most noticeable, as it was much larger than the others.
"One, two, three... seven, besides the six ordinary goblins, there's actually a leader among them?"
Catherine glanced at the lone young man in front of her with some surprise.
Although goblins are not powerful monsters, they are notorious killers of novice adventurers.
They live in groups, are cunning and greedy, and are good at ambushes. They often appear in groups of three to five. Many new adventurers have fallen into the hands of goblins on their first mission, suffering injuries or even losing their lives. Even in small group operations, if not handled properly, it is extremely easy to cause casualties.
Not to mention that there is a leader among them, which makes dealing with them exponentially more difficult.
Furthermore, the consistent freshness of the ears confirms that they died around the same time, and were definitely not expired products stockpiled by opportunists.
In other words, all her previous judgments were wrong, and the adventurer in front of her was not the novice she had imagined.
Thinking of this, Catherine's previous slight dissatisfaction vanished instantly, and she revealed a sincere smile.
The Adventurers' Guild has always respected true strength; power is the best passport.
"I've done the calculations. There are a total of six ordinary goblins and one goblin leader, Left Ear. According to the latest bounty, the total reward is six silver coins and eighty copper coins. Please take a look."
Seeing that Rhodes nodded in agreement, Catherine's smile became even brighter.
"Could you please give me your adventurer's certificate? I need to register your identity information to settle the bounty." She smiled and reached out to Rhodes.
Rhodes shook his head.
Catherine paused for a moment, then said understandingly, "Then I'll register one for you."
The Adventurers' Guild is not a strict organization. Unlike those secretive monk guilds, it is essentially a centralized site for issuing commissions. People from any social class can become adventurers, and the guild cannot possibly verify the identity of each individual.
After all, freedom is the foundation upon which the Adventurers' Guild has survived to this day.
Whether the other party has lost their adventurer's credentials or does not want to reveal their original identity, prying into it will only provoke their resentment.
Of course, re-registering means you won't be able to enjoy the original benefits.
"What is your name and occupation?" Catherine asked, handing over the registration form after collecting the 50 copper coin registration fee.
"Hero, the Ranger," Rhodes said without hesitation.
He had already thought of these simple details before he even arrived.
Considering that their identities should not be exposed, Rhodes and Alina decided to operate as Wind Rangers.
"This is your Adventurer's Credentials. Due to your completion of the Goblin Bounty, your current rank has been raised from Apprentice to Tier 1 Adventurer."
A moment later, Catherine handed him a palm-sized copper plaque with a string attached.
Rod took it and curiously touched its material and texture.
Rod had picked up wooden plaques of this style many times as a corpse collector, but this was the first time he had ever handled a bronze plaque.
"Is there anything else you need, Lord Hiro?" Catherine asked with a smile, introducing the more lucrative commissions over there. "With your skills..."
"I can't take it..." Rhodes murmured, looking at the monster extermination missions.
Since the Adventurers' Guild is a profit-making organization, and it takes a cut, the commissions that are attached to it are naturally not cheap commissions like catching rats in taverns. They are basically all related to money and human life.
This means that most dangerous commissions can only be accepted in teams.
"Can't take on these?" Hearing this, Catherine blinked. "Don't you have a regular team yet?"
Seeing Rhodes nod, Catherine's smile deepened.
This answer indirectly proves that the other person really did kill seven goblins by himself.
"I can list your information in the recruitment section so you can find the teammates you want," Catherine said with a smile.
Rhodes nodded, memorized the prices of some monsters once again, and then left the Adventurers' Guild.
Not long after Rhodes left, the guild's wooden door was pushed open again, and three figures walked in.
"Wow, is this the legendary Adventurers' Guild?"
Leading the charge was a short child, dressed in silver armor and carrying a large sword disproportionate to his height.
Upon seeing Catherine, the receptionist, he became even more excited, gesturing wildly and muttering something about a "great adventure."
Catherine couldn't help but facepalm when she saw this.
Another silly kid lured in by adventure stories.
"This is torture... Why do I have to come to this godforsaken place instead of doing my research properly..." The woman holding the wand looked dejected. She was wearing a loose, dark purple robe and walked in reluctantly.
Behind them, a girl in a white priest's robe followed timidly. Faced with the trouble her companion had caused, she could only give Catherine an apologetic smile.
Whether in their attire or their speech, the three people's refined style didn't quite match the rough and barbaric atmosphere of Misty City.
"Hello, receptionist," the short warrior darted to the counter, raising his hand in greeting, "Please allow me to register as an adventurer, thank you!"
"Register another adventurer party..." the priestess girl whispered from behind.
"We also need to recruit a local guide to work for us," the mage said lazily, fiddling with the amethyst on her wand. "He needs to be familiar with the Misty Forest environment; strength doesn't matter."

As the saying goes, taverns recruit geniuses.
If the Adventurers' Guild was the talent market of Rhodes' previous life, then the tavern was a gathering place for unlicensed workers, a melting pot of all sorts of people and requests.
Weak adventurers who can only do cheap and simple commissions, unable to find work in the guild, will come to the tavern to try their luck and naturally have a couple of drinks.
Those who are unwilling to pay the Adventurers' Guild a cut can simply order the cheapest drink at the tavern and ask the bartender to draw the details of their request on the wall.
The owners are happy to use these commission information to attract customers to their bars and build popularity.
Although the spacious environment of the Adventurers' Guild is more suitable for drinking and having fun, they do not allow adventurers to drink and make a scene in the hall in order to maintain appearances.
Gradually, many drunken adventurers would only appear in the guild when they were accepting and delivering commissions; otherwise, they would spend most of their time either on their way to earn money to buy alcohol or drowning their sorrows in barrels of liquor.
Considering that the guild's recruitment might be a long way off, Rhodes decided to try his luck at the "Broken Barrel" tavern that Guard Buck had mentioned.
Rhodes pushed open the dilapidated wooden door of the "Broken Barrel" tavern, and the strong smell of sweat and alcohol hit him. In stark contrast to the guild's cleanliness, the tavern was noticeably more lively.
Unfamiliar faces and brand-new, high-quality ranger equipment clashed with the rough surroundings. The tavern's noise paused for a second before returning to normal.
This time, however, there were countless people secretly watching him.
Ignoring their curious, probing, or even malicious gazes, Rhodes sat down at the bar counter and quickly began filtering through the requests he could make, looking at the request board covered with pictures.
"What would you like to drink?" Before Rod could finish looking, the bartender behind the counter wiped the glasses and came over, his tone a little impatient, and deliberately blocked Rod's view.
"The cheapest wine," Rod said.
"...One copper coin," the bartender said with a sneer, casually pushing a large glass of pale, watery yellow liquid in front of Rhodes. "Outsider? Where did you find this place?"
"Buck recommended it." Rod didn't even glance at the glass of wine; his eyes remained fixed on the order form behind him.
Before the bartender could react, a rough and enthusiastic voice came from the side.
"This wine tastes like horse piss, how can anyone drink it? Bring this brother a glass of my favorite snake fruit wine," the middle-aged man with a thick beard said, slapping down ten copper coins before sitting down next to Rhodes. "What's your name?"
"Hero," Rod replied casually.
"My name is John," he said, his gaze lingering on Rhodes' brand-new equipment. "Looks like you're here alone, Brother Heero?"
Rhodes nodded.
"Why don't you join my team? We've taken on a mission to wipe out a goblin lair. We have three members right now, and we're only missing you, Brother Shiro."
John, who looked honest and kind, didn't beat around the bush and extended a warm invitation to Rhodes directly.
"We have two warriors and a wanderer in our group, and Brother Hero, you know how to use a bow and arrow, so we're all set," he praised.
Seeing that Rhodes remained silent, he changed the subject: "Brother, don't look down on our poor team. The Misty Forest has been quite turbulent lately, with all sorts of monsters lurking around. Many adventurers have gone in and never come out again. You're just a stranger wandering around aimlessly. You might as well team up with us, at least you can look out for each other."
Rod glanced at him sideways but didn't reply.
What kind of adventurer team is it if it doesn't even have a warrior, mage, and priest?
Of course, Rhodes only thought about it.
In a small place like Misty City, there are very few truly awakened professionals. Mages and priests, who have stable and high incomes, are rare and highly sought-after figures among adventurers, making it almost impossible for Rhode to encounter one now.
Better adventure teams already have fixed members and won't randomly recruit freelancers.
Since it's just a hastily assembled adventure team, it doesn't matter who we go to, so we might as well get on the road as soon as possible and make some money.
"I can only join your team temporarily..." Rhodes finally gave his answer.
"It's okay, as long as you can come."
Seeing that he finally nodded, John breathed a sigh of relief, glad that his ten copper coins for drinks hadn't been wasted, and that he could soon get them back using the other man's equipment.
after all……
Isn't it normal for an accident to happen during a mission and for one or two teammates to die?
"Brother Hiro, you don't seem like the type to stay in Mist City for long," John said, glancing suggestively at the others in the tavern. "It would be perfectly normal for you to suddenly leave Mist City someday."
The regular customers around him seemed to be used to this scene, and some even sneered at him with disdain.
Worried that Rod would find out, John hurriedly got up and urged:
"There's no time to lose. My companions are still waiting over there. How about we go and meet them?"
Rhodes nodded. Just as the two stepped out of the tavern, three people approached them.
That was the warrior-mage-priest squad from Rhodes's dream.
