Chapter 28 The Formation of the Crystal Tomb
Chapter 28 The Formation of the Crystal Tomb
As someone who already knew the outcome, Cheng Xu couldn't help but show a hint of pity in his eyes.
He couldn't bring himself to criticize Nathaniel's naiveté and recklessness, because he had heard similar stories in his previous life—
Some people, after hearing some flowery rhetoric, abandon their hometowns and travel thousands of miles to so-called civilized countries overseas, only to end up becoming waste materials of "civilization".
Nathaniel, who had lived on the planet Golun his entire life, heard about the vastness of the starry sky for the first time, and thus devised a plan to pave the way to the stars.
The difference is that this last patriarch genuinely cared for the entire clan, believing that the future of the Crystal Rock Clan should not be confined to this planet, and hoped to open a completely new door for the clan.
His initial intention was good, but he mistakenly trusted someone he couldn't trust.
At this moment, Cheng Xu had roughly guessed that the "Crystal Rock Clan may have launched the ritual to eliminate hostile groups" recorded in the Bureau's files was probably quite different from the actual situation.
Having gained Nathaniel's trust, the extraterrestrial visitor finally revealed his fangs on the day the ritual was launched.
"That day, I gathered the most elite members of the tribe and planned to have them undergo a bathing ritual to complete their evolution."
When Nathaniel spoke of what happened that day, his voice became noticeably rougher, and his words were tinged with hatred.
"He tricked me into holding a ceremony around the crater, and tricked me into sending my tribesmen underground to serve as the points of the ceremony."
"He used my people as a medium, taking advantage of the Crystal Clan's adaptability to the earth, and through our connection with minerals, to draw out the infinite energy buried underground."
As a race born from rocks, the Crystal Rock race had long ago gained a thorough understanding of the planet's underground structure.
The rock-metal mixture liquid flowing within them is also related to the magma flowing underground.
After the tribe migrated from underground to the surface, volcanoes and lava have always been one of the tribe's most important survival resources.
Although there is no way to draw a geological cross-section of the planet like in a textbook, almost all the Crystal Rock People know that there is some kind of destructive energy deep beneath their feet.
Cheng Xu knew what Nathaniel was talking about—it was the core of the planet Golun.
Nathaniel trembled as he recalled the scene from that day.
At the site of the ceremony, the earth began to hum and vibrate incessantly. A crisp sound came from deep beneath one's feet, the crystalline rock layers buried underground crumbling.
The eruption point raised a dome. When the dome cracked open, there was no fire, only a torrent of liquid, silvery-white liquid shot into the sky, like a waterfall hanging upside down, tearing open a twisted, giant pillar.
The edges of the column were covered with gravel from the crystal plain. High-pressure air waves propelled the alloy droplets into the stratosphere, where they cooled into millions of metal hailstones that crashed to the ground.
The crystalline rock layer on the surface, with concentric ridges of mineral veins rising around the vent, then melted in the extreme heat, causing the earth to collapse and liquefy around the vent.
It was a complete natural disaster.
All the crystal stone beings in the central area of the ceremony were either swallowed up by the flood of the Earth's core or sank into the liquefied earth.
At temperatures high enough to easily melt even metals, the crystal-rock people didn't even last a second before vanishing without a trace.
By the time Nathaniel realized what was happening, it was too late. It roared and questioned the man, only to be burned to ashes by the Earth's core energy.
Cheng Xu remained silent. He could basically foresee what would happen next.
The high heat and intense radiation caused by the geothermal eruption enveloped the entire planet, severely damaging the physical structures of all silicon-based life forms under the extreme environment.
In just a few days, the once vibrant Golun Star was transformed into a hellish place, with no trace of life remaining.
Nathaniel was still immersed in turbulent emotions and it took him a long time to calm down.
"It was a long time before I gradually regained consciousness."
For a long time after the disaster, its consciousness did not disappear with the destruction of its body, but remained in a state of chaos.
It was surrounded by the remaining consciousness of countless Crystal Rock Clan members, and could hear their wails every moment. Nathaniel could clearly sense the emotions in their consciousness.
It was a yearning for survival, a fear of death, and resentment towards its patriarch.
The source of the disaster is Nathaniel; it is his arbitrariness that has led to the current situation.
Immersed in regret, constantly cleansed by the remnants of his people's consciousness, Nathaniel's consciousness finally fully recovered after an unknown period of time.
It discovered that the original location of the ritual had disappeared, replaced by a boundless lake of lava, and it was in the form of a consciousness, observing the earth beneath its feet from a bird's-eye view.
The surface of this planet is completely different from what I remember.
The rampant growth of crystal rock covered a third of the planet's surface, while the crystal rock people in the outer areas became soulless zombies, acting solely on instinct.
Cheng Xu knew that the time when Nathaniel's consciousness was fully restored had come after the formation of the Crystal Tomb.
In other words, the continued existence of the consciousness of the last patriarch of the Crystal Rock Clan in front of us is very likely directly connected to the Abnormal Crystal Rock Tomb.
"Later I discovered that many humans had appeared on this planet. They gave that lava lake and my people a name: the Tomb of Crystal Rock."
"Now, I am also part of the Crystal Rock Tomb."
Cheng Xu suddenly looked up: "Huh?"
Nathaniel looked at Cheng Xu:
"The Crystal Rock Tomb that you speak of is essentially a product formed under the influence of the collective consciousness of our Crystal Rock Clan."
"For thirteen hundred years, I have been like a ghost with nowhere to go, wandering over the planet."
"The crystals on the earth are part of my senses, and I begin to observe you newcomers."
"I listen to your conversations, I learn from your knowledge, and I watch quietly as you explore this planet."
Hearing this, Cheng Xu finally understood why there had been a sense of awkwardness in the conversation.
Nathaniel, a crystal rock human who lived 1,300 years ago, spoke in a manner that was remarkably similar to that of a human.
This is likely one of the influences it received during the observation process.
Seeing that Cheng Xu was deep in thought, Nathaniel did not stop narrating.
It told Cheng Xu that although it could extend its senses through the Crystal Tomb, it had difficulty interfering with the real world and could not transmit the information it knew to the outside world.
Until one day, Nathaniel discovered that he could establish a faint connection between his consciousness and a certain vein of crystal rock.
That is its birthplace, and it shares the same roots as it.
"Through this connection, I spent over a hundred years transforming the vein into the cave you see and infusing a part of my consciousness into the crystal core."
"My original plan was to be taken away from this planet in the form of a crystal core, and then tell him all this after I found someone I could entrust it to."
Nathaniel then changed the subject:
"But it's too late. I can sense that the Crystal Tomb has recently undergone new changes."
"The person who lied to me is back!"
