Chapter 89 Backstab

Chapter 89 Backstab
"Joker. This is not part of our plan."
Bain said:
"you……"
"Ah, um, ah, uh—"
But before he could finish speaking, the Joker waved his hand to interrupt him.
He hummed softly, his face falling like a wronged little dog.
"Plans, plans, plans, hmm. Always plans."
"Everyone has plans, everyone loves plans. Good heavens, look at me."
He rubbed his pale face repeatedly with his hands, then clapped them quickly, showing Bain a smile:
"I'm a madman, a madman! Look at me, do I look like the kind of person who would do things according to plan?"
"You're the dog chasing the car," Chen Tao replied, giving a standard answer.
The numerous analysts who studied him before his time travel had already thoroughly analyzed the Joker's true nature:
"Even if we do catch up, we won't know what to do with it. You're just... doing things for the sake of doing things."
Of course, Chen Tao was well aware that these deconstructions of the Joker were essentially the result of the blind men and the elephant. All the conclusions were merely a glimpse into the whole picture, and whether they touched the elephant's leg or tail, they were only the tip of the iceberg.
Chen Tao reminded himself of this.
These conclusions do not allow one to fully understand the Joker. He is a chaotic and pale man, and even someone as intelligent as Luther could not completely predict his actions.
Therefore, we must respond to each move as it comes and decide based on the situation.
"Oh, sweetheart. You understand me so well."
The Joker feigned being touched: "You're much more considerate and charming, unlike a brute like Bane—though you're always making plans too."
He said:
"Ugh, I'm getting so fed up with these plans lately. That Owl Court has a plan, the police have a plan, even Bane has one."
"You despicable schemers. You always keep your own little world firmly in your grasp."
"Yeah, but you know that~"
He said in a lighthearted tone, "I'm not exactly a schemer—"
Then, without warning, his tone immediately shifted to a somber and violent one in the second half of his sentence:
"I'm making those conspirators realize just how pathetic and ridiculous their efforts to control everything really are! Hahahahahahaha!"
He laughed so hard he bent over.
Then, very quickly, he straightened his body like a spring and continued speaking as if nothing had happened:
"Oh, I apologize for my intrusion. I really wish I could control my hysterical laughter, but he's really special... the way he resonates in your head."
"Joker. I've had enough of your useless nonsense."
Bane said, "Where's the nuclear bomb I gave you? You were supposed to activate it, you pale buffoon. But you ruined everything. You did something stupid, Joker. Far below your villainous level."
"We could have completely crushed Batman."
He concluded, "This is a betrayal. I had higher expectations of you."
"You have some expectations of me?"
The clown said, "No offense intended."
The smile vanished from his face in an instant: "You think you're worthy?"
Bain pressed a button on the back of his hand, and the venom behind him began to flow into his body again:
"Batman, I'm sorry, but I may have to deal with an unexpected situation before we begin our final showdown."
He even apologized to me, he really did, I cried my eyes out.
Chen Tao felt like he had suddenly become a gift being fought over, a very strange feeling.
He crouched to the side, quietly observing the development of the situation, while silently issuing orders to his numerous subordinates outside via his communicator:
Be ready at any time to intercept a potential nuclear missile launch!
"I've never liked you, Joker, hahahaha..."
Bain said, "You think I wouldn't be wary of your betrayal? Hahahaha!"
"But I originally thought you could at least help me attract some of Batman's attention—Pfft! Hahahahahahahaha!"
"What happened?"
Bain covered his mouth; he was beginning to realize something was wrong.
"How could that be? I clearly guessed that you would put laughing gas in the Titan Venom I used to enhance myself, so I took precautions against it, hahahahahaha!"
"...I took precautions and made sure all the venom I poured into the bottle was pure. How could you...? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!"
He burst into uncontrollable laughter: "I've carefully examined every glass of water you handled, every edible item. I've never eaten any of it. You couldn't possibly have had the chance to do this to me—"
"That's enough, stop laughing!"
But Bain was completely helpless against his uncontrollable laughter.
"I'm going to kill you. Pfft, hehehe..."
Bain said, "I'm going to kill you. I'm going to cut open your brain and make sure every nerve is burning in endless pain and suffering, make sure you never go into shock—hahahahahaha!"
"Oh, I'm really going to hide in my little boots in fear. Hold on, Bane. Maybe you can imagine something truly terrifying, hehehehehe..."
The Joker revealed the answer: "It's air. Remember when you came to me? That ridiculous little pre-battle scheme? You came to me to explain your laughable 'plans'?"
“Impossible,” Bain said. “I’m an expert in pharmacology, haha… I understand the composition of drugs. Even if you could concoct a poison gas with a delayed effect, it would be impossible to precisely control the physical condition of every individual.”
He said, "Logically speaking, the stronger the individual, the longer the drug takes to take effect, hahaha! For example... if you really concocted a delayed-action gas, those soldiers who were in the same room with you should definitely take effect before me, unless this gas is..."
"That's right, clever Bane!" the Joker laughed.
"Looks like you've figured it out too. I've designed a brand new formula for you! You know what? It's this love and care in the Joker's Gift Pack that will make you a repeat customer! Of course, that's assuming you survive tonight."
"God, Bane. I'm a well-mannered buffoon, and I know you. We've been together for so long, haven't we? We've been through thick and thin together."
The clown crouched down in front of Bane. The other man grinned so wide his mouth stretched to his ears, and clutched his stomach on the ground.
"You may be wary of me, you may never have trusted me from the beginning, but you'll always be Bain. How boring, you're always predictable, you try the same thing over and over again. How ridiculous."
Do you truly believe that what you are pursuing is something meaningful?
"You've gone to great lengths, coming up with all sorts of new tricks, but in the end it's just the same old tricks that the Romans and Malone played, Bain."
Defeating Batman, ruling the city, building your own criminal empire, using hostages to threaten heroes… it’s all too predictable, it loses all humor.
