Chapter 50 The Little Dark Room
Chapter 50 The Little Dark Room
Hearing the shrill alarm in his ears, Chen Mu struggled to open his eyes, only to find himself in complete darkness.
Although it was pitch black and he had no idea where he was, he was experienced enough to sniff the air and smell the unpleasant disinfectant odor.
Looking down further, he had a better idea of what was going on and exclaimed in surprise:
"I'm back in this mental hospital!"
With no mirror or phone at hand, she couldn't verify her appearance, but she knew clearly that she had returned to her teenage form.
In the past month, no such "time travel" incidents have occurred. Chen Mu had almost forgotten about this dream world and was about to give up actively searching for a way to travel through it.
Unexpectedly, things turned out quite well, and I found myself here without even realizing it.
"You need to figure out your situation."
After all, it wasn't the first time. After quickly calming down, Chen Mu began to explore his surroundings.
She found herself in an extremely small room, beneath what appeared to be a hospital bed, with simple bedding and some kind of instrument whose function she couldn't quite make out. Because there was no light, she couldn't see clearly and could only rely on her hands to feel around. As she touched around, she discovered a urinal under the bed. Fortunately, she didn't touch anything dirty, but Chen Mu's heart sank.
She touched three walls and a closed metal door without an inside handle, clearly indicating that she was being imprisoned!
"Is this the treatment a mental patient should receive? Where is my original ward?"
Chen Mu originally thought that the ward he and Xiao Ying were in was already in very poor condition. The windows were closed and there was no ventilation, and there were no entertainment facilities, so they could only sit and chat.
But compared to this place, it's like heaven. It's so narrow and dark here that it's difficult to even stand up and take a few steps!
She couldn't help but recall the time she was locked in the closet when her wife first kidnapped her; there was a strange similarity. Luckily, she didn't have claustrophobia, otherwise she would have gone crazy sooner or later. But even so, she couldn't sit still any longer; she had to find a way to escape, or she would develop a disease from being locked up like this.
Chen Mu recalled that, in his dazed state, he heard someone next to him shouting something like, "She's awake!"
It's likely that there are surveillance devices or cameras inside the house, and someone is probably guarding the door.
She went to the door and knocked hard a few times, while calling out:
"Is anyone there? I'm awake! But I'm fully conscious, I need to get out—"
Sure enough, before she could shout a few more times, the viewing window in front of her suddenly opened.
Startled by the sharp sound, Chen Mu was forced to squint at the blinding white light, and first heard the other person's voice.
"Hmph? You're awake now. Who knows if you'll suddenly have another attack!"
As you gradually see more clearly, it is half a face with many wrinkles, and a pair of extremely wary, unfriendly eyes.
Chen Mu recognized her as one of the caregivers employed at the mental hospital.
Realizing she must be in a terrible state, she quickly tidied her hair, wiped her face, and forced a smile that appeared as rational as possible.
"Hello, Auntie, I'm awake now. Can you let me out?"
"Sober? Ha! You probably don't even know why you're in solitary confinement!"
Why?
Chen Mu frowned. She could see more than just wariness in the other person's expression; there was even hostility.
The caregiver sneered, "You'll have to ask yourself that! Who knows why your condition is so outrageous? The medicine doesn't work for you! After you took the medicine, you started fighting, smashing a lot of things in the ward. Several people couldn't stop you, and you even injured the caregiver, talking nonsense. The doctors couldn't do anything about you and could only lock you in the solitary confinement room."
"...Did I do all of this?"
Chen Mu was stunned for a moment.
"Of course! Look at my injuries, do you expect me to give you the CCTV footage before you believe me? You're crazy!"
The caregiver was furious, especially when she saw Chen Mu's confused and bewildered look. She stretched out her arms, covered in scratches, to show him, some of which had just begun to scab over.
"I really want to see the surveillance footage..."
boom!
Before Chen Mu could finish speaking, the viewing window in front of him closed.
A furious roar came from behind the door: "You'd better stay locked up, and don't even think about getting out!"
The other party certainly wouldn't show any evidence to a mentally ill person; they would just say whatever they wanted, and Chen Mu didn't have much confidence to refute it.
"Could I really have done it?" Chen Mu sat back on the bed and began to ponder.
She knew this from her last time transmigrating; her identity in this dream world was extremely strange, and all her words and actions would be replicated in the real world.
Both what is said and what is done will be transmitted truthfully, like a puppet or a game character being manipulated.
For example, if he says things like "magical girl" in real life, people in this world will treat him as mentally ill and delusional, which is why he was locked up.
"If that's the case, what was I doing after I traveled back in time... Oh right!"
Upon thinking about this, Chen Mu was both amused and exasperated.
She recalled that the first thing she did after returning to the real world was probably to "train Lin Yongxi".
During that time, they sparred quite a bit, throwing and grappling, punching and kicking, which inevitably involved a fierce stance. If these actions were projected onto the body in this world, that would be disastrous. The caregiver was probably right; he was definitely fighting wildly in the hospital room, attacking people, and spouting nonsense about magical girls…
It's understandable that he was locked up as a mentally ill person.
"So, my constitution is really troublesome; it always seems to cause problems."
Chen Mu sighed.
If this rule holds true, then she'll eventually have to return to the real world, so wouldn't she have to have an attack here every time? And be locked up every time?
She didn't even know if she had hurt the little girl named "Xiao Ying" who shared the room when she went crazy in the hospital last time.
Does this mean that every time he returns to the real world, he has to sit quietly in one place, lost in thought? Saying nothing and doing nothing? Wouldn't that be like throwing the baby out with the bathwater, unable to get anything done? Chen Mu was absolutely unwilling to do that. Her affairs over there were more important; she still needed to participate in the magical girl competition and continue investigating the truth behind her wife's death.
At this point, an ordinary person would weigh the importance of both sides and make a choice.
—Or you could just give up on this 'dream world' and focus on life in the real world, and stay locked up here while waiting to travel back, so you don't hurt yourself.
However, Chen Mu is not a normal person.
"I have to go out and see what's going on; I can't just sit here and wait to die."
Without even hesitation, she stood up immediately: "Since I've come here, it must not be meaningless. Perhaps there are some wondrous powers waiting for me in this world."
Thinking of this, the girl walked to the door, pressed her palm against the door panel, and tried to activate the power of the [monster] to force her way out!
