Chapter 15, Fourth Breath
Chapter 15, Fourth Breath
"Su Jue, what's going on? Why didn't the boss catch up? Did he let us go?" After running for several minutes without seeing Pei Min, Fang Qi asked.
His response was Su Jue's silence.
The image of Pei Min sheathing his sword played repeatedly in his mind like a movie.
Was Pei Min really this kind of person?
"It's probably because I blew up the house, so they can't catch up for now." Su Jue stopped at an alley entrance.
"What the hell? You made such a commotion by arresting us in the morgue and no one noticed. How many things have you blown up by now?" Fang Qi sat on the ground, panting heavily.
"There are only three ways to survive now," Su Jue said, holding up three fingers.
"Tell me about it, I'll choose something easy and not tiring." Fang Qi spread his hands and supported himself on the ground.
"Join the Thousand Faces Cult, learn disguise, and go to other countries. Their influence abroad couldn't possibly be this vast." Su Jue retracted one finger.
"Find a way to prove you haven't been contaminated. That's the hardest way, because someone saw you being harassed by that guy." Su Jue retracted another finger.
"Finally, assassinate the three of them, and then figure out how to resolve the wanted situation. The difficulty is that I don't know Lin Yang's level. If I can't kill him in an instant, I'll fail." Su Jue tucked in his last finger and clenched his fist.
"That's not right. The warrant has already been issued, so all the demon hunters should know about me, right?" Fang Qi stood up and dusted off his backside.
"That's the problem. I read the wanted notice Xu Menghe sent me. It didn't mention you being corrupted at all. It even demanded that you be captured alive and taken back to be killed. So..." Su Jue stopped halfway through his sentence, as if Pei Min was standing in front of him, sheathing the sword that could easily take his life.
"So after they die, no one will know that you were corrupted, and then the sin of murder will be attributed to the Thousand Faces Cult, causing the two sides to fight. This way, they won't have time to look after us, and we can find a way to extricate ourselves." Su Jue revealed his thoughts.
"Then let's join the Thousand Faces Cult and escape," Fang Qi said, scratching his head. "I'll try to choose the method with the fewest casualties."
Fang Qi is timid and afraid of death, that's a fact. But perhaps because he killed someone in the past, he's even more afraid of getting close to those memories.
So he ran away; he was afraid of seeing death again. His last emotion before losing consciousness that day was also fear.
His parents died after he lost consciousness like this, and he was afraid that other lives would disappear because of him.
Su Jue glanced at Fang Qi, whose eyes held not only Fang Qi's usual cowardice but also a hint of determination. He sighed, "Alright, Xu Menghe said she'd come to help us. Wait here for a while."
"You're dating her? She seems really attentive to you." Fang Qi tilted his head and leaned closer with a gossipy look on his face.
"I don't know why, but I feel that her motives for helping me a lot are strange. But there's nothing I can do, our current situation isn't good, and she really has been helping me, so I sent her the location," Su Jue said calmly.
"She definitely likes you, really! You know, when you went to chase after the dead that day, he asked me a lot of questions about you." Fang Qi hugged Su Jue.
"I can't tell." Su Jue shook her head.
"What are you talking about?" Fang Qi was about to continue when he was interrupted by a female voice, it was Xu Menghe.
She wore a casual top and denim shorts, her hair tied in a ponytail, which added to her youthful vibe.
"Fang Qi said..." Su Jue had only uttered a few words when Fang Qi covered her mouth.
"It's nothing!" Fang Qi said with a smile, pursing his lips.
"Tell me the specifics of the situation now," Xu Menghe said, getting straight to the point when she saw Fang Qi's expression.
"Let me explain, it's like this..."
Fang Qi quickly repeated what Su Jue had just said to Xu Menghe.
"I can hack into the surveillance cameras in an area for a short time. If Plan Three is really going to be implemented, I can help." Xu Menghe took out a box of chewing gum, took out two pieces, and handed them to Fang Qi and Su Jue.
"Oh, actually your wanted notice has been lifted." Xu Menghe chewed her gum and looked at Su Jue.
"What's going on?" Su Jue took the chewing gum and put it in her pocket.
"Huh? What am I supposed to do then!" Fang Qi spat out the gum as soon as he put it in his mouth.
"I don't know, I just sent this on my way here. Now all the morgues are chasing after the fake Fang Qi, and no one is taking care of the fake Su Jue. The number of fake Fang Qi members in the Thousand Faces Sect is also decreasing very quickly." Xu Menghe picked up her phone, which showed that the number of "Fang Qi" members was decreasing sharply.
"Also, I found something else that I can't unpack this document." Xu Menghe manipulated the document and brought it up.
"□□ Plan"
"With such high security, and such a weird name, is it... a god?" Fang Qi asked.
"Maybe... that's what I think too. But where do all these gods come from?" Xu Menghe turned off her phone.
She discovered that following Su Jue could indeed teach her a lot of incredible things.
"Let's see how things go as we go." Su Jue turned around and prepared to continue running. He wanted to go to the cemetery first.
He thought of the human-faced dead creature; he had previously concluded that the bastard wouldn't dare go to the city.
But he had been wandering around the city for so long these past few days and hadn't noticed anything strange, so he figured the problem wasn't with the city, but with the cemetery.
That bastard probably isn't afraid to go to the city; he just wants to drive them out of the cemetery.
As Su Jue was thinking, a whooshing sound came from behind him. He immediately crouched down and erected a wall of fire.
But after the wall of fire was erected, an arrow came hurtling towards them.
Su Jue was somewhat surprised. Had the arrow "eaten" his flames?
He looked at the arrow, which was generally no different from an ordinary arrow, except that it was covered with black patterns.
It looks a bit like...
The object shattered upon landing, and the arrow vanished at the same time.
Fang Qi was somewhat shocked; he had seen that arrow several days ago.
"Actually, there's a fourth plan." In the distance, a person carrying a bow and arrows emerged from the darkness.
Su Jue's pupils dilated instantly upon seeing the newcomer, and her breathing and heartbeat began to surge wildly.
The person was wearing a black robe, making it impossible to see their face or distinguish their gender from their voice; they were immediately forgotten after hearing it.
"Let me introduce myself. I am the High Priest of the New World. As long as Fang Qi comes with me, he can live," the High Priest said.
Just as the high priest was about to speak again, a flame that was gradually changing color stretched out. By the time the high priest could see that the person who came was Su Jue, the flame had already turned white.
"Did you kill them?!"
Su Jue roared, but the flames mysteriously disappeared just as he was about to touch the high priest.
Before he could dodge, the high priest punched Su Jue in the stomach as he charged towards him.
Su Jue spat out blood. He lay on the ground and rekindled the flames, but no matter what he did, the fire would disappear before it reached the High Priest.
Xu Menghe's gaze fell on the high priest's two hands, which were knuckle dusters.
"Just like Su Jue described before, the bow and arrow, brass knuckles, clothes, everything is clearly visible, but this person, nothing can be seen clearly," Xu Menghe thought to herself.
She was about to remind Fang Qi to be careful when she saw that Fang Qi had already rushed out.
"No!" Fang Qi activated a spell to briefly blind the high priest before rushing towards Su Jue, trying to pull him out.
But the moment his hand touched Su Jue, a fist wearing brass knuckles came down.
"It's fine even if I can't see you," the high priest said casually, tossing Fang Qi back. "Go wait in the back."
"Let me deal with this guy first." The high priest lifted the dying Su Jue. "So you can be this weak."
"I said... no." Fang Qi's voice came again from behind the high priest.
"Huh?" The high priest then realized that his bow and arrows had been taken away.
Xu Menghe, who was about to quietly run away, stopped. She saw Fang Qi, who had been lying on the ground, slowly getting up and even breaking the floorboards.
She opened her phone's camera, intending to capture the scene that was about to unfold.
Fang Qi picked up the bow and arrow, and made a nocking motion. In an instant, the dense black arrows gathered together and pieced together an arrow on the empty bowstring.
It looked exactly like the shot the high priest had just fired.
Fang Qi took a quick aim, released his grip, and the arrow broke free from the bow and arrow, hurtling towards its destination.
The high priest stretched out his right hand, intending to block the arrow directly, but the arrow grazed his left hand perfectly and pierced his right hand.
"Very accurate. And then, can you shoot another one?" Blood kept flowing from the high priest's right hand, but he didn't care at all.
"I know that's impossible. But I'll give you a chance now: join the new world, and I'll spare his life." The high priest kicked Su Jue, who was lying on the ground.
Fang Qi's hands were trembling, but when his gaze fell on Su Jue, he still gave in.
"Let them go first," Fang Qi said.
"Yes." The high priest looked at Xu Menghe.
Xu Yafang immediately put away her phone: "Coming!"
She approached cautiously, helped Su Jue up, and then immediately ran away.
She glanced back at Fang Qi before leaving, but still went on her way. Now she could only choose the fourth option.
Su Jue's death meant his mission had failed, though he didn't know what the penalty for failure would be.
"That's enough, they're gone." Then, the high priest pulled the exhausted Fang Qi away.
"I can walk by myself," Fang Qi said.
"Then you can leave by yourself." The high priest released his grip, letting Fang Qi fall to the ground.
Fang Qi struggled to get up, and for some reason, he felt that he might actually survive this time.
In the sky, the eye that had always been staring at Su Jue turned its gaze to Fang Qi for the first time.
The high priest seemed to sense something, turned around to look at the sky, and smiled at Him.
"Hello there."
