Chapter 1 Killing the God
Chapter 1 Killing the God
Well, he admitted that today's opponent was indeed a bit tricky.
Su Jue let out a long breath, wiped the rainwater mixed with blood from her face, and once again focused her gaze on the monster in front of her.
The monster resembled a piece of rotten flesh, was over two meters tall, and had more than ten human faces attached to its body.
Every face on those people was filled with despair, their mouths agape, uttering cries for help in different ways.
Su Jue raised his right hand slightly, and a cluster of distorted hieroglyphs appeared beside him.
"Snap"
The words shattered with a snap of Su Jue's fingers, and at the same time, a ball of flame attached itself to his right hand.
Su Jue gripped the flame and charged forward. Instantly, the flame stretched out and ignited the entire alley.
"Help...me..." The human-faced monster howled with its last remaining face. As Su Jue pulled his hand away, the creature uttered its last sound.
He flung the flames onto the monster's corpse and let them burn.
"I'm sorry," Su Jue sighed softly and walked out of the alley.
Rainwater falls from the sky, and without exception, it evaporates as it approaches this spot.
……
"Did you hear? There was a loud bang in the alley next to Lianxing Street last night. Could it be some kind of gang fight in the alley?"
"What?! The news said it was a gas leak that exploded when it came into contact with an open flame, okay? What were you thinking, calling it gangster stuff?"
The next day, students at Pingchuan No. 2 Middle School were all talking about the sudden explosion the night before.
"Was the noise too loud?" Su Jue wondered, chewing on the bread she had just bought from the store.
"Be more careful next time," Su Jue muttered to herself.
Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of someone following behind him out of the corner of his eye; he had seen that person as soon as he stepped out the door.
Thinking it over, Su Jue quickened her pace.
Seeing this, the people behind her quickened their pace and followed Su Jue to a corner ahead. But as soon as they turned the corner, a handsome face appeared in front of her.
"Haha...what a coincidence, classmate! We just happen to be going the same way! Tell me, how is it such a coincidence!" Su Jue silently watched the girl with the ponytail in front of her make an excuse for following her all morning.
"Hey, Su Jue! Why aren't you saying anything? Do you know that leaving a girl like this will make her feel awkward?" The girl with the ponytail quickly approached and poked Su Jue's chest twice with her finger.
"Tell me who you are first." Su Jue walked to an open space to the side.
"My name is Liu Xue, I'm in the class next to yours." Liu Xue gave her name, but the boy in front of her remained silent: "Forget it, look at you! I'll just ask you directly, are you a 'Warlock'?"
Su Jue frowned slightly, a hint of confusion on her face, but quickly relaxed: "What is a warlock?"
"Stop pretending." Liu Xue lowered her voice: "You killed that level D 'Human-Faced Demon' last night, didn't you? You didn't even leave the body."
"I'm not a sorcerer, and I don't know any human-faced demons. Liu... classmate, if you're looking for inspiration for your play, you don't necessarily have to rely on me." Su Jue denied Liu Xue and turned to leave.
"Huh?" Liu Xue reached out to stop him, but seeing that Su Jue had walked away, she didn't chase after him.
She sighed, squatted down, took out her phone, and dialed a number.
"Did he agree?" A clear male voice came from the other end of the phone.
"What the hell? I didn't even have a chance to say it... He won't admit he's a warlock," Liu Xue complained to the person on the other end of the phone.
"That's normal. It's a bit hard to accept when a demon-hunting organization suddenly appears. Can you handle it? Should I come?" the person on the other end of the phone asked.
"Never mind, I'll do it myself." Liu Xue hung up the phone and went upstairs again.
At noon, the students hurried toward the school cafeteria.
Su Jue sat in his seat doing his homework. He was used to waiting for some people to finish eating before going to the cafeteria.
However, he doesn't plan to go to the cafeteria today; he has other things to do.
"Old Su, someone from the next class is looking for you, it's a beautiful girl!" A fat guy walked over excitedly and pulled Su Jue towards the door by his sleeve.
This is Wang Yang, Su Jue's friend.
Come again?
Su Jue followed Wang Yang, but when they reached the door, he paused for a moment. The person standing there was a girl with loose hair whom he did not recognize. He had thought it was Liu Xue.
"Hi... I'm from the next class, my name is Xu Menghe... Here, take this!" Xu Menghe handed over an envelope with both hands, and as soon as Su Jue took it, she ran away as if fleeing.
"Wow, Lao Su, a love letter? Wow, when will I ever have a face like yours, so that beautiful girls would inexplicably send me love letters?" Wang Yang fantasized happily, while also asking, "What does it say? Let me see! Let me see!"
"It's better to avoid this kind of thing," Su Jue advised Wang Yang, putting away the letter.
"You're just living too comfortably. I sent you love letters and you weren't happy about it," Wang Yang sighed.
Su Jue sat back down, thinking about the letter she had just received.
"Su Jue, I know you're a sorcerer. The people from the morgue have contacted you, haven't they? I guess you haven't joined them yet. Then you might consider us, 'Puppet'."
What bothered him was that the letter ended with a sentence in English.
Let's play a game.
"We've really been exposed." Su Jue thought to herself. The commotion last night was too big. The morgue... it must belong to Liu Xue's faction.
Su Jue leaned back, moved the chair back a few centimeters, and then got up and walked towards the door.
They used to fight in the suburbs, but yesterday I got itchy and fought in the city, and that's how I got caught.
"So it seems that warlocks are indeed a minority among the people." Su Jue muttered to himself as he climbed over the school wall, and at this moment, another person followed him.
Regarding these two forces, what he cared about more was not whether they were good or evil, but which side understood better the three sentences that haunted him like a ghost.
Half an hour later, Su Jue arrived at a cemetery in the forest on the outskirts of the city. On the way, he stopped at a flower shop and bought two bouquets of flowers.
He easily found the two graves, squatted down, and gently placed the two bouquets of flowers in front of them.
"Come out." After Su Jue bowed his head and mourned silently for a few minutes, he called out and walked to a tree nearby.
Liu Xue and Xu Menghe emerged from two different directions.
He leaned against the tree and began to speak to himself: "Ten years ago, my parents died because of a mysterious fire. The media claimed it was a gas leak. But I knew it wasn't. That fire appeared out of nowhere in front of me, appeared randomly, spread randomly, and took their lives."
Su Jue pointed to the two graves: "There's nothing inside. I erected these two graves without permission. There are no corpses. I heard their wails and their calls to me. Besides them, there was another person. I couldn't see his face clearly, and I couldn't tell if he was male or female from his voice. He said three sentences to me, and then he disappeared, taking the flames with him."
"Which three sentences?" Liu Xue couldn't help but interrupt Su Jue.
"So, are you telling us all this to figure out the meaning of those three sentences or to find the real culprit?" Menghe asked impatiently, her demeanor completely different from how she was at school.
Clearly, his demeanor at school was an act.
"There are gods in this world." Su Jue began to recite the three sentences that had been lingering in his mind.
Meanwhile, Liu Xue and Xu Menghe, standing nearby, couldn't help but show a hint of fear on their faces.
"Gods may show kindness, but they are not benevolent."
As soon as Su Jue finished his second sentence, the eyes of the two people beside him were already bloodshot, but he didn't notice.
"When calamity strikes and the gods descend, remember this: kill the gods."
The moment the last two words were uttered, Liu Xue and Xu Menghe's pupils contracted instantly. They collapsed to the ground before they could even cry for help, their bodies oozing blood.
"I can't hear it..." Su Jue frowned, immediately stepped forward to check, and was relieved to find that the two were still breathing.
Just as he was about to get up, a sharp pain appeared on the back of his neck.
He immediately slapped it, but the pain was fleeting.
What Su Jue didn't notice was that at the same time, the sky was incredibly blue, except for one spot where all the white clouds gathered, forming the shape of an eye, staring intently at him.
