Chapter 41 What else are you afraid of?
Chapter 41 What else are you afraid of?
Little Titi.
The sound was crisp and clear, echoing several times in the empty corridor.
Li Ang almost lost his composure. He bit his lip hard, forcing back the laughter that was about to spill from his throat.
He stole a glance at Charlotte. Her face, which usually carried a calm smile as if she wouldn't panic even if the sky were to fall, now looked as if someone had poured cold water on it, and her expression turned extremely ugly.
"Shirley Eckart," Charlotte said coldly, squeezing each word out from between her teeth, "How many times have I told you? Call me either Holmes Quentin or Miss Charlotte."
Shirley tilted her head and thought for a moment, then smiled and said, "Really? I forgot."
She spoke very sincerely when she said this, as if she had genuinely forgotten, rather than trying to annoy anyone.
Charlotte took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down.
Li Ang noticed that her right hand clenched at her side, then loosened, and then clenched again.
It's obvious that the other party is holding back.
For someone like her to have to put up with something, the other party must either be of a very high status or be extremely difficult to deal with. This blue-haired armed detective probably fits both descriptions.
"Why were you sent here? Isn't there anyone else in the association?" Charlotte's tone was filled with undisguised disdain.
"Because I'm the only one who has time!" Shirley said matter-of-factly, spreading her hands. "Everyone else is busy with missions. Some are killing demons, some are capturing cultists. I just finished a mission and was getting ready to go to sleep when your letter arrived."
She leaned close to Charlotte, their noses almost touching. Charlotte didn't back away, but her brows furrowed into a tight knot.
"So here I am! Surprised?"
"A surprise." Charlotte gritted her teeth, her expression twisting slightly, and said, "A very pleasant surprise."
Shirley's gaze passed over Charlotte and landed on Leon, scrutinizing him from head to toe before she asked, "Who is this? Your butler? But isn't your butler an old man?"
"My assistant." Charlotte stepped aside, but her tone didn't imply any introduction. "I brought him along to broaden his horizons."
"Wow!!!" Sherry's golden eyes lit up instantly. She extended her hand enthusiastically, as if welcoming a long-lost relative. "Hello, I'm Sherry Eckert, a Royal Armed Detective. What's your name?"
Leon Moriarty extended his hand and shook hers.
"Okay, I got it." Shirley released her grip, turned to Charlotte, and said, "Where's the body? Let me take a look first, then we'll talk. We've come all this way, we can't just leave empty-handed."
The two men led her to the Viscount's room.
The smell hadn't completely dissipated in the bedroom.
Shirley glanced at the Viscount's obese corpse on the bed, her expression unchanged.
"Tsk tsk, what a gruesome death." She commented casually. "Looks like it was murder." After that pointless remark, her gaze returned to Charlotte. "But speaking of which, Charlotte, how were you invited here?"
Charlotte took the letter of authorization out of her pocket and handed it to Sasha, briefly recounting what had happened.
Shirley listened and nodded, her long blue hair swaying gently behind her.
"So, what else is there to investigate?" Shirley clapped her hands. "Arrest all the maids in this mansion and interrogate them. We're sure to get the information out of them."
Simple and direct, it certainly has the style of an armed detective.
Li Ang couldn't help but interject, "The investigation has already identified four maids as the prime suspects."
After saying that, he took the opportunity to activate his ability and glanced at the prompt above the other person's head.
[Sherry Eckert, Royal Armed Detective, Sequence 6 Inquisitor. Abilities: Confinement Declaration, Aura Lock, Physical Enhancement, ???, ???]
Sequence 6, a level higher than Elena who carried the laser cannon back then.
Moreover, these abilities are extraordinary just by looking at their names, and the question marks that follow them tell you they are absolutely terrifyingly powerful.
This was the first time Li Ang had encountered a Sequence 6 ability user.
He had previously asked Charlotte that for armed detectives, Sequence 6 was a threshold; those below Sequence 6 were still mortals and faced a certain risk of being ambushed and killed.
However, armed detectives of Sequence 6 and above have undergone a complete evolution in their physical abilities. Ordinary swords, guns, and cannons can hardly penetrate their defenses, and it is no exaggeration to say that they have bodies of steel.
Only superpowered individuals with similar combat abilities and powerful cultists can deal with armed detectives of this caliber.
Looking at the carefree, silly, and seemingly innocent blue-haired girl in front of him, he found it hard to associate her with a Sequence 6 powerhouse.
But his own hints couldn't be faked, to which Li Ang could only say, "Don't judge a book by its cover."
"Oh! Where is that person?" Shirley asked.
"They've escaped. But I sealed off the mansion immediately, so they shouldn't have gotten out yet." Charlotte's tone remained indifferent, but it carried a more businesslike quality than before.
Although the two belong to different detective systems, her position is higher than Sasha's, so Charlotte can naturally give orders.
"Now that you're here, the scene is yours. I'll find the clues, and you'll make the arrests. Clear division of labor."
"Understood!" Shirley stood at attention and gave a somewhat awkward bow, like a primary school student saluting a teacher. "Then, Little Titi, you can go and rest now. You've worked hard tonight."
When she said this, her tone was unusually serious.
Charlotte turned and walked out of the bedroom.
Li Ang followed behind her, and as they walked out the door, he heard Shirley mutter softly behind him, "Little Titi's temper is still so bad."
The sound wasn't loud, but it was just enough for Li Ang to hear.
He couldn't help but chuckle, but quickly recovered.
Charlotte walked through three corridors before she finally stopped, saying without turning her head, "Laugh if you want."
Li Ang tried his best to maintain his expression, but the corners of his mouth turned up slightly, a scene that Charlotte naturally saw.
"I wouldn't dare."
"You wouldn't dare?" Charlotte turned around, staring intently at him. "You dared to lay a hand on a viscount, what else wouldn't you dare to do?"
"I didn't," Li Ang quickly explained, "Although I do dislike that guy, at least I didn't kill him."
"Heh," Charlotte said with a forced smile, "It's just a matter of being an accomplice and a principal offender."
Clearly, the detective had discovered something amiss.
But that shouldn't be the case! Li Ang was a little confused.
He hadn't actually done anything; he just happened to see Amy and the others leave the room, and then he just happened to choose to ignore them, and then he just happened to get entangled with Helena.
How can this blame be placed on him?
Oh my god! This detective is so mean!
Seeing that Li Ang did not reply, Charlotte sat down in the chair, crossed her legs, and took out her pocket watch to take a look.
"It'll be dawn in a few hours." She placed her pocket watch on the table, leaned back in her chair, and closed her eyes. "I'll rest for a while. There's still something to do after dawn."
