Chapter 186, Section 83: Gordon the Old Man's Battle

Due to the GCPD's deliberate arrangement, only James Gordon among the arrested group was sent to Block D, where serious offenders were held.

The vast majority of the criminals there were brought in by Gordon over the course of his more than ten years as a police officer.

At that time, Gordon was young and hot-blooded, hated evil and disdained to collude with corrupt cops. He not only had the highest crime-solving rate among GCPD officers, but also had a strong sense of martial arts. He once fought with twelve knife-wielding thugs in an alley for thirty minutes with his bare hands and was ultimately unharmed, earning him the title of "Gotham's One-on-One King" from Brock.

However, due to his outstanding achievements, Chief Locke almost transferred him. Fortunately, his glorious deeds were spread through the newspapers, and the title of "Gotham's Star of Justice" became deeply rooted in people's hearts. When they heard that Officer Gordon was leaving, angry citizens attacked the police station and almost burned down the city hall.

To appease the agitated citizens, Locke had no choice but to keep him there, repeatedly instructing the gang not to harm Gordon.

See? Only the powerful have the power to overturn the rules. If Gordon were even slightly weaker, his body would have been mixed in with solidified concrete and sunk to the bottom of the Gotham River long ago.

Now, a full week has passed since Gordon went to jail, and the long-awaited end seems to be finally about to unfold.

Gordon has been subjected to inhumane treatment during these days, including but not limited to being beaten by his hair, being forced to clean the urinal with his tongue, and being forced to eat food after it has been thrown on the ground and trampled on.

Gordon held back, and he knew that the prisoners who hated him so much hadn't killed him because they were waiting for this day.

The monthly fighting tournament, which used to be an elimination-based competition, has been transformed into a ring match due to his arrival. Gordon will face all challengers in the ring until he is exhausted and beaten to death.

The prisoners humiliated him like madmen, trying to drive him to a mental breakdown before he even stepped into the ring.

They knew that even at nearly fifty, Gordon was still a tough nut to crack.

But everyone wanted to kill him with their own hands. Since they couldn't defeat him head-on, they decided to resort to underhanded tactics.

"Even in this state, you still haven't given up?"

"Give up? I forgot how to spell that word."

Gordon let go and jumped down, patting his hands full of rusty iron filings. He was somewhat surprised that he could still do fifty pull-ups in one go, even though he hadn't exercised for several years.

Upon entering prison and learning that he might be sent to the underground ring, Gordon began rehabilitation that very night, doing pull-ups, push-ups, and punching the wall after lights out. It took about a week for the lactic acid to build up and be completely digested, giving him enough time to get his flabby body back to its best condition.

With the boxing match starting in half an hour, Gordon had already finished warming up.

"If I get out of here alive, I'll go back and investigate your case. If there are indeed problems, I'll personally help you overturn it."

"Case." Gordon wiped away his sweat, grabbed the prisoner's vest draped over the edge of the bed, and put it on.

The man he was talking to was a tall, thin albino man named Victor Zass, but he claimed that he was not the infamous white killer at all, but a scapegoat who was tortured into confessing by the Gotham Police Department.

He had been locked up here for eight years. A guy with delicate skin like him was bound to be treated specially by the "big guys". When Gordon moved into the cell, the man was planning to end his life with a belt on the rusty water pipe above his head.

"We're all going to die here. This is a cannibalistic prison."

The man lay on the upper bunk, staring at Gordon with a sorrowful expression.

On the one hand, he was truly filled with despair; on the other hand, Gordon broke his arm to stop him from taking his own life.

It really hurts.

"If you're not afraid of death, why would you be afraid of living? Me too. As long as my daughter is safe, I'm not afraid of anything. Likewise, to see her one more time, I must get out of here alive!"

Gordon swept his graying hair back and reached his hand out over the railing.

After the prison guards handcuffed him, the cell door opened.

Warden Jess was waiting in the corridor to "see him off".

"Dear James, it's been so long since we parted ways at the police academy, I never imagined we'd meet again here."

"I have nothing to say to you."

Gordon glanced at him coldly. If he hadn't been held down by the two prison guards, he would have rushed up without hesitation and broken the other man's nose.

"What's wrong? Are you dissatisfied with my hospitality? This prison fight isn't something just anyone can watch, let alone participate in."

"When I told the guests that Chief Gordon was going to participate, they went crazy. You know, these guys usually only watch the games on the dark web, but this time, almost everyone came in person to see the Gotham King of One-on-One."

"Who are they?" Gordon asked in a deep voice.

"Who do you think they are? Rich people in Gotham. When these guys have countless riches, they always want to see something new and exciting, like what happens if someone's eyes are gouged out while they're still alive, or what kind of sound a person's head makes when it's twisted off."

"They're prisoners! What do you take them for?"

"Become a prisoner?! Don't these wicked beasts deserve such an end? Of course, it would be even better if they could earn me some extra money."

"Jace, you still don't realize you're wrong."

"Shut up, Gordon! It was because you reported me for drug use in the police academy that I lost the bright future my parents had planned for me. Coming to this godforsaken place as a warden, hanging out with a bunch of lowlifes every day, I'm going crazy!"

"You will pay for this humiliation a hundredfold! You will die at the hands of my carefully trained prisoners, your bones torn apart one by one!!!!"

Jess suddenly widened his eyes, stepped forward, and grabbed Gordon's clothes with a ferocious expression.

This gave Gordon the opportunity.

A merciless headbutt came crashing down on him. Jayce clutched his crooked nose, blood spilling from his palm and exploding into blooms on the ground.

Gordon was unsurprisingly punched and kicked by the prison guards, but Jess ignored the gushing blood from his nose and hurriedly pushed his men away.

He couldn't let his cash cow get hurt; tonight's clients were all waiting to see Gordon humiliated and tortured to death.

"James Gordon, this is the last time you will humiliate me. You will die soon, and I will stand on your grave and laugh out loud."

"Oh no! You don't even deserve a grave. The next day I will announce that you escaped from prison, and you will forever be one of the millions of missing persons in Gotham!"

"And your corpse will rot and disintegrate at the bottom of the cesspool!"

When Gordon was escorted to the underground fighting arena, a converted abandoned power generation room, a deafening roar erupted from the crowd. Unfortunately, this was not a cheer to welcome a hero, but rather a barrage of vulgarities.

On the second floor of the fighting arena, men in suits and ties, accompanied by their female companions, were dressed to the nines. If it weren't for the various masks on their faces, Gordon would have almost thought these guys were attending a grand ball.

They are the "customers" that Jess was referring to.

Gordon had the opportunity to wipe out all the scum and corrupt elements in Gotham, but he chose to use that evidence to save Barbara.

It's pointless to regret it now; the law and justice have been delayed, and this isn't Gordon's fault alone.

The man's handcuffs were removed, and he was pushed onto the blood-stained ring by the prison guards, where his opponent had been waiting for a long time.
